Turning Home into School

Many moms have found ways to create a business at home that can make them a very nice income but keep them at home so they can take care of their kids.  The best kind of home based business to set up is one that is based on an interest you already have or a skill you may have developed during your working life outside the home.  So if teaching is your niche, there are ways to use your teaching skills to continue your passion for educating young people but transition it into a home based business.

Tutoring is one of the best ways to make money at home educating youngsters.  If you are well networked in the local schools because of your years as a public school teacher, you can use those connections to let people know you are offering tutoring in the subjects of your specialization to help students who are challenged in that subject.  Suppose your specialty is math.  Many parents would like bring their kids to you home for one on one tutoring in math so you can give them the remedial training they need not just to pass the course they are in but to develop that passion for math that you have.

This is a perfect fit to your goals as a work-at-home mom.  By enjoying success as a tutor, the schools will come to look to you more and more to help troubled students.  But you get to work at home so even when you are working, your children are nearby and you can respond to them if they need your love or help.  You can even have your students work at your kitchen table so you can train them and have them work on their studies while you cut up vegetables for dinner.

The home school market is also an active source of income for a home based teaching program.  You can develop a course of studies that may be very similar to the curriculum you taught when you worked in education outside the home.  By learning about home school programs, you can make sure your curriculum fits what home school parents and students want and need and customize it so you are giving your students the best possible education for the money their parents are paying you.

You can conduct the actual class work in a small classroom you set up in your home for this purpose.  The home school parents get the value of your knowledge and teaching skills.  And by bringing together home school kids for an hour or two of instruction, you give them a social learning time that they miss out on because they are not in the public school programs.

This is the kind of home business that you can start out small and grow in the amount of students you accept or classes you teach.  Your outstanding teaching skills will develop a reputation for you.  You will learn about the home schooling social network and learn to network with other teachers who cater to the home school communities as well as with parents.  In doing so, you put yourself in a position to take over that part of the curriculum of a particular year of home schoolers and offer specialized training that is a high quality of teaching that is what home school parents want for their kids.

If you have specific skills and resources that will give you something extra to offer to your students, that is the kind of edge that will help your home based teaching business to grow.  If you are a musician, you may have a studio with a piano and other teaching tools to help students who want to focus on musical skills.  That swimming pool in the back yard can be used to teach youngsters swimming or life saving skills.  You can teach dance, computer programming or even martial arts if you have a training room set up for that kind of teaching and the knowledge and skills to offer.

This is an outstanding way to take resources and skills that are part of your passion for particular disciplines and turn those interests into profitable home based training programs.  You will enjoy being with students and you can continue to be a teacher while also being a great mom building your business right out of your home.
